FACULTY OUTREACH AND SUPPORT

Faculty can be supportive and involved in Democracy Matters in so many different ways! DM students should personally contact faculty, explain DM, and ask for their help. Each DM member should "adopt" at least one faculty member to contact and get involved. 

DM Class Raps - Faculty can give DM members one or two minutes at the beginning of classes to talk about DM, a critical issue, or a DM event or discussion. Be sure to pass around a DM sign-up sheet to get names and emails.

Faculty Class Announcements - Ask faculty to read a short DM statement to their classes advertising a DM event, an election, or critical issue.

Booking Rooms - Ask faculty help with booking rooms for meetings or events if DM is having difficulty doing so.

Extra Credit - Ask faculty to give their classes extra credit for attending DM events and/or discussions.

Faculty panels  -  Invite two or three faculty to be part of a DM-sponsored panel discussion. Or invite a faculty member to participate in a student panel discussion with DM and other students.

Pizza and Politics Discussions - Invite a faculty member to briefly present and then facilitate a DM-sponsored interactive discussion ("Donuts and Democracy"  "Cookies and Conversation'"  "Snacks and Facts" etc.) 

Make a Video - Faculty can have a DM member video them offering their view of a critical issue (voting, climate change, free speech etc) to use on a video or to post on DM social media. 

Sponsorship - Faculty or departments can co-sponsor a DM discussion, action or event.

Funding - Ask faculty for department funding to support a DM discussion, action or event.

Independent Study - Faculty can  sponsor and work with a DM member to engage in/study Democracy Matters organizing or other democracy research as an independent study class.

Communication with Student Majors -  Faculty can add information on DM meetings, discussions, actions and events in d out department newsletters or emails to student majors about DM and its discussions, actions and events.

Departmental Secretaries - They‍ can often be very helpful sening out DM commuinication to majors in their department. In addition, they can give DM access to deparment chairs and help identify other faculty who might be inerested in helping DM.

Outreach to Others - Ask  faulty for the names of colleagues who might also support Democracy Matters., and for contact they have in the community with groups, organizations, politicians or activists.
