short raps & classroom presentations

With short “raps” in classes (or at club or dorm meetings etc) you can spread DM messages, recruit members, and advertise DM events.

 “Raps” can be a really short or longer presentations. But make sure you touch on all four points:

  1. Start with a problem (e.g. environment, cost of college, attacks on democracy etc)

  2. Give them hope - tell them a solution (e.g. stop climate change, free tuition, improved voting rights, and of course DM students working for change)

  3. Tell them how they can help and get involved. (e.g. join DM, attend a DM invent etc)

  4. Give them DM meetings or event information. (place and time)

Tips for Success

  • Ask professors for a minute (or two) at the beginning of class.

  • Give DM raps at other clubs or dorm meetings…or anywhere else you can.

  • Emphasize problems/solutions that students can relate to.

  • Do not read your rap…memorize it!

  • Speak slowly and loudly…smile!

  • Make eye contact with your audience

  • Practice, practice, practice

  • Pass around a name/email DM sign up sheet (“I want more information about DM”)

  • Write DM meeting and contact information on the board
