Petition campaigns create great outreach to students. And elected officials are infuenced when student petitions lobby them - thanking them or making demands.
Table - Create a petition with lines for students’ names and emails. Put the DM logo at the top, and write a short, clear political message referring to any issue, e.g. “ Dear[Senator, Representative etc], We are students at [your university]. We are deeply concerned about the devastation of climate change [any issue]. We urge you to support renewable energy legislation” or “Dear Representative, We are students at [your university]. TWe thank you for supporting legislation to end gun violence in our communities”. Ask students to sign on.
Give every signer a handout with information DM and the political issue on the petition. Copy the signed petitions and send them with a cover letter and DM information to representatives. Be sure to include a return address!
Canvass - Create a petition (see above) and obtain student signatures by knocking on doors in dorms, walking around campus with clipboards, and/or asking students in dining halls or snack areas.

Club Outreach - Ask members of other clubs to sign on. Attend the meeting of a related club, make a short presentation, and pass around the petition (see above) for students to sign. Leave handouts with information about DM and the political issue on the petition.
