CAMPUS COALITIONS

Building coalitions by collaborating with other campus clubs and organizations strengthens Democracy Matters and spreads our message. Find ways to get messages to other clubs that they whatever their issue, they have a stake in social justice and a govenrment policies related to their issue a social justice and building more inclusive and fair democracy (e.g. pre-med clubs=health care & public health policy; science clubs=funding for research; international student clubs=immigration policy; community volunteer clubs=funding for education, low-income families etc.; outdoor recreation/environmetnal clubs=climate change; academic clubs=funding for graduate study).

DM Campus Ambassadors

DM members as “DM Ambassadors” connect DM with other clubs they belong to. They explain how DM and the club can work together to plan events, share tabling, sign petitions and/or craft messages that include both clubs’ priorities.

Tips for Success:

• Begin by choosing clubs that DM members already belong to. Do not limit DM outreach only to “political” campus clubs. Everyone has a stake in democracy!

• DM member offers to give a short talk to the club about what Democracy Matters does on campus, mentioning ideas for possible collaborating.

• Hand out a one pager linking the DM’s interests and issues with those of the club. Examples: a hiking club with climate change; a social work club with economic justice; a pre-med or science club with the cost of health insurance or funding for medical research.

• ‍ Pass around a sign-up sheet for more information about Democracy Matters and/or to connect to our social media.

• Don’t give up after only one try at collaborating.
