Faculty & Speaker panels
Dynamic presentations by one or more faculty members or outside experts will attract students to DM-sponsored events.
Faculty
Students want to hear what their own professors have to say outside of class. Faculty can offer extra credit and help advertise the event.
Outside Experts
Politicians, community organizers, local activists and DM speakers offer new perspectives on critical issues.
Tips for Success
Invite a panel of three or four (but never more) popular professors to discuss an issue from different perspectives.
Invite panelists who have special expertise (e.g. economists -economic inequality; sociologists -social movements; scientists- AI danger or climate change etc.)
OR invite panelists to give their own personal opinions (e.g. on an election; attacks on free speech/democracy; student activism etc.)
Set up a debate.
Organize a pizza and politics discussion with faculty.
DM member introduce the event with a short talk about DM;
Students sign in as they enter the event; receive a DM handout.
Invite the school paper or publications to cover the event.
