MEET UP with Democracy Matters in Washington, DC at the Rally for Sanity on October 30th
NOON-12:30 - corner of 4th St. NW and Madison Drive NW (the north side of the mall)
RALLY TO RESTORE SANITY
What "in-sanity" means:
• Spending over $3 billion on mid-term elections. • Unlimited corporate money funneled through the Chamber of Commerce and other conservative groups attacking moderate candidates. • Long-term Senators who support sane campaign finance reform (e.g. Russ Feingold) threatened by people whose idea of governing is to say "NO!" • Money in politics scandals constantly hitting state and local government. • A democracy filled with people distrustful of government and cynical about politics and politicians.
What "sanity" would look like:
• A government of, by, and for the people; not one bought and paid for by corporations. • A public financing option for candidates to run for office without depending on big corporate support. • Elections that are not for sale. • Campaigns where money is not the most important factor in deciding who wins. • Elected officials who spend their time legislating, not courting lobbyists representing big money.
MEET UP WITH DEMOCRACY MATTERS SUPPORTERS BETWEEN Noon and 12:30 AT THE RALLY. WE WILL CONVENE ON THE CORNER OF 4TH STREET N.W. AND MADISON DRIVE N.W. (on the north side of the mall).
SEE YOU THERE BECAUSE -- AS YOU KNOW -- DEMOCRACY MATTERS!!
